APPLEDORE will be celebrating its annual carnival this weekend with a procession through the village on Sunday.

The first carnival was held in 1903 and this year promises a ‘very special day’ with costumes, floats and entertainment.

The carnival will assemble along Staddon Road at 3pm where judging will take place and the parade will set off at 4pm.

The route will wind through the village, along the Quay towards St Mary’s Church and back along Irsha Street.

After the carnival the Appledore Pirates will be hosting a carnival part at the Royal Hotel & Coach & Horses in Market Street, with a grand prize draw.
