Former British carp record holder and well known author visiting River Reads book shop for a book signing on Saturday, May 17.

RENOWNED angler and author Chris Yates will be attending a book signing at Torrington’s River Reads bookshop on Saturday, May 17.

His warm, eccentric and engaging tales of angling exploits – including his capture of a former British record carp weighing 51lb 8 ounces from Redmire Pool in 1980 - have won him legions of fans.

He will be signing copies of his latest book The Lost Diary, an account of his fishing at Redmire from April to September 1981 and then lost until it resurfaced in a box of old Christmas decorations.

His books have always celebrated the natural world and in 2012 he added a nature book Nightwalk, to his portfolio and discovered a growing readership of nature lovers.

Through misty meadows, bubbling streams and hidden pools, his writing continues to capture glimpses of an England once thought lost.

The event at River Reads will be raising money for Angling Heritage, of which Chris is a trustee, and this year, the Angling Trust will also receive £1 for each signature.

Plus, Stephen Harper of Harper Fine Angling Books has donated a signed limited edition print number 412, entitled The Monster Pike, which will be raffled on the day to raise money.

Raffle tickets can be purchased through River Reads, or on the day of the book-signing. Visit www.riverreads.co.uk for more information or call 01805 625888/622064.

In conjunction, The Plough Arts Centre is screening the award-winning film, Kiss the Water, based on the life of legendary fly tier, Megan Boyd. For tickets, call 01805 624624. There are screenings on Friday, May 16 and on Saturday, May 17.
