Maynard John’s Bideford staff setting off on 200-mile weekend cycle challenge
A team of accountants and business advisors is training hard to take on a 200-mile weekend cycle challenge to raise money for the Chemotherapy Appeal.
Six members of staff from Maynard Johns in Bideford, led by company director Edward Johns, will be setting off from Bideford Quay on Friday, September 26, and heading for Land’s End, before returning and finishing at Hartland Quay two days later.
Edward, 40, was inspired to set up the challenge by his sister Jane Maynard, a fellow partner at the company, who used the chemotherapy unit two years ago.
“My sister had the misfortune of needing to use the facility a couple of years ago and we’re very happy that she’s fully recovered and back working with us,” he said.
“Her main comment coming out was ‘there’s not enough space’ and obviously the new unit will help – to do a little bit to help towards it makes us feel very proud,” he added.
The team, which also includes Jason Cox, Peter Quincy, Caroline Bramwell, Oliver Keates, Paul Jarrett and Barnstaple Round Table chairman Darrel Gill, is aiming to raise a total of £3,000 between them, with fundraising well under way.
