Grow@Jigsaw and Amigos Worldwide received thousands of pounds in pledges at the ‘Dragons Den’ style evening held by The Funding Network.

In total, the evening raised more than £15,000, which is estimated to rise to around £18,000 with gift aid.

The four Devon charities involved each gave a six minute presentation and then left the room whilst an audience pledged minimum donations of £50 to help them reach their target.

Peter Yeo, ambassador for the Devon Community Foundation who co-hosted the event, said: “The feedback on the night was amazing, from both the charities involved and those who pledged.”

“This is the second night like this we have hosted, and it would be great if we could bring something like this to North Devon one day as there were a lot people here from the area.”

Grow@Jigsaw is a Bideford-based project who use local food production to help addicts, offenders and the long-term unemployed.

Amigos Worldwide featured as the international charity, for the work it carries out in Uganda with young and vulnerable people.

The previous year’s event helped raise money for The Freedom Centre in Barnstaple, who used the money to, among other things, provide over 11,000 free meals for vulnerable people.
