North Devon turns out for Macmillan

The Swallows Class of Year 5 and six pupils at Our Ladys Catholic Primary School in Barnstaple worked hard with staff to organise a Macmillan coffee morning for parents and friends of the school, raising more than £200.

HOMES, cafes, schools, halls and businesses in North Devon all did their part on Friday to support the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning for Macmillan.

Events on or around the day saw volunteers, business staff and school children serving coffee to the public – often accompanied by a home made cake or two - in return for a donation.

Pupils, parents and staff at Ilfracombe Junior School raised £422.65, while Ilfracombe Indoor Market held a ‘10 per cent day’, with traders providing cakes and home-made cookies.

Residents at Westward sheltered housing schemes in Ethelwynne Brown Close and Chubb Churchill at Bideford plus Griggs Close in Northam raised £494.60 between them.

Macmillan provides practical, medical and financial support, as well as pushing for better cancer care and funding the training of the well known Macmillan Nurses.
