I can see the arguments for both sides but a cautionary tale - many years ago I worked in a leisure centre in Cornwall. Part of that enterprise was an amusement arcade. If ever there was a magnet for undesirables that was it. The worst case? We were descended upon by 100+ Hells Angels who appeared charming and polite during the day. In fact, they were researching the site and that night returned and 'did the place over' clearing off with cash, cigarettes ... anything they could lay their hands on. Certainly that's worst case scenario and, with luck, nothing like that will ever happen in Sidmouth but there's nowt so blind as them that don't want to see'.
1. I am sure, that Sidmouth has no need to fear an ingress of "Hells Angel" biker gangs, intent on rape and pillage. I would be more concerned about an ingress of "alloy stick wielding ramblers"!
2. The arcade owners have a living to make and I think you will be surprised at the type of customer base the arcade attracts.

1. That only happens during 'Folk Week'.
2. We'll be keeping our eyes open for the expected influx of 'middle aged women'.
Then it "Will" be over 18's only as far as I am aware... It is criminal to steal a purse, daring to steal a fortune, a mark of greatness to steal a crown. The blame diminishes as the guilt increases
Yes - there was never any doubt that the application was for the premises to be used by over 18s. Perhaps the original header for this thread was a bit misleading.
I am a middle-aged woman but unfortunately now living abroad. Could you please let me know when the 100 Hell's Angels are due to arrive so that I can book my holiday in Sidmouth for that period?
I do remember going in the Dove several times many years ago and as I recall the bar was about the same size as a living room. I can't imagine how all us bored housewives, biker boys plus machines are going to fit in - but I am looking forward to it.

The only wheels that 'burn up' the esplanade now are mobility scooters. As far as Hell's Angels are concerned - I can only keep an eye on the booking diary at the Belmont to see if we can get some advance warning and let you know.
Well the place has been open for over 6 months now - society has not plummeted into oblivion and there have been no riots outside of the premises. I wonder if all those that objected to the application with stories of 'social disaster' and warnings of 'organised crime' feel that they went a tad over the top?
