These amenities were completed last year - why aren't they open for public use? I realise the showers won't get much use this time of the year but, there are enough coaches disgorging their 'elderly visitors' now who would certainly appreciate a nearby toilet when they get off the bus.
Ah but you are forgetting a more important requirement than actually putting them to good use - the good old photo-opportunity . We've got to wait for better weather and a gap in the civic diary so that our happy band of councillors can trot down to the toilets, all dressed up in their finery and do what comes naturally to them - their 'Lavatory Duty' for the camera, cut the ribbon and reel off the first sheet of paper. Only then can the common man use the facilities that we have paid for already.
Of course, to make it safe to cross the road to use them - consideration must now be given to a suitable Pedestrian Crossing!!
I think a bridge along the lines of the proposed one at Connaught Gardens! We may as well have two... then three.... when nobody uses all these bridge people will welcome the view back!

I think you're right about Folk Week useage - but, aren't they supposed to be for beach users/surfers etc?
Whoever makes use of the facilities, it is obvious that most people will have to cross the road from the prom to get to them. Surely a crossing of some kind (no - not a bridge please ) must be on the cards.
Work is now beginning on the western end of the shelters, next to the toilets, to convert them into a 'Youth Cafe'. It would be extraordinary if all this was put into place without thought of a means of a safe road crossing for the children and visitors who will be attracted to this side of the road.
I agree - it is inconceivable to think that these facilities should be made available without any thought of a Pedestrian or Pelican Crossing - especially as the majority of users will be children.
As I have not seen anybody use the showers along the front, I said to my "other half" go and see if they are working. He pressed the button (I thought I did not want to do it in case I got engulfed in a shower!) and it poured down. So they are working.
We crossed the road waiting for the cascade to stop......please stop we were thinking.
So they are in working order - I still have to see anybody using them.
They may be a "white elephant" or if our water rates keep going up you may see all us locals using them!!!
I have not seen these showers anywhere else has anybody else?

Even in the rain tonight (Thursday 5.30 ish) I thought the seafront looked lovely. Plenty of parking along the front tonight and even in the rain there were people without dogs, walking in the rain enjoying themselves.
I would have thought the Fort Cafe would loose trade to the proposed youth cafe that should be opening along the front. One thing - I hope there will be a lot of very thirsty and hungry people in Sidmouth to keep them all open.
I would like a music shop to open, I miss Woolworths for Music and DVD's - hope somebody who is thinking of opening a shop reads this. Exmouth has "Onion Heart" we have charity shops for CD's and DVD, but for new......

........ Oh Gawd - thats at least 50 pence down the drain
Well, if they're going to be un-metered there's going to be a queue during Folk Week.
