I was interested to read that the poor staff at Shauls Bakery were "copping some flack" from the "yummy mummies", for daring to ask that "Dear little Tarquin and Felicity" stop leaving the cafe like a bomb site and desist from running amok within!
How rude of the manager! I mean, why shouldn't the good ol mums of the "Quinny Owners Club" be able to let their tartrazine infused offspring "run riot" amongst the diners. Anyone would think the staff had nothing better to do than pick up food debris and dodge wild children whilst carrying bowls of steaming soup.!!
I remember fondly the years of taking my three kids into cafes and restaurants all over Devon. To them it was a treat and they enjoyed it because we treated them like adults and expected them to be on their best behaviour. Sadly we now have a new generation, whose parents never sit at the table and eat with them at home, or instill the virtues of good manners, cutlery usage or the ability to eat without having an open mouth. Hordes of children seem to think that eating today is like being antelope grazing the veldt, constantly moving whilst sucking sustenance from a "chicken Mc Twizzler" or "re formed nugget", whilst making a high pitched noise akin to an F16 tomcat at takeoff! Their parents, feel happy to switch into "ignore them mode" whilst they discuss the gossip, or "whose 4x4 has the best Gucci Handbag Holder", thus the dear little ones burn off their energy by running around the eating establishment annoying those who seek a peaceful snack. Perhaps the parents concerned, would have done better, to request a dustpan and brush from the staff and make some attempt to clear their offspring's debris, or "God Forbid" keep an eye on them in the first place.
We all have to learn, but to learn, you have to be taught and it is a great shame that those well behaved children, with good parents will be affected by the actions of those who just don't care!
But that sums up life really! It is criminal to steal a purse, daring to steal a fortune, a mark of greatness to steal a crown. The blame diminishes as the guilt increases
