It is with great sadness that I read in today's "Journal News" of the two Royal Marines facing court over alleged charges of assaulting an Afghan man in Afghanistan whilst serving there. My sadness, is that whilst these two men are under the glare of the media and caught in the Jaws of the "do gooder PC brigade" , no one will be "appearing in court" for the murders of 100 members of our armed forces, who will not be coming home to their loved ones ever! Isn't it strange how you never see a plethora of "legal aid sharks" taking on cases against those who murder our troops! I wonder what politically motivated "do gooder" is trying to nail these two brave men? I wouldn't like to think it was anyone who has seen what they have seen and risked life and limb to try and restore some law and order to the stinking hell-hole that is Afghanistan.
Good luck to the both of you!

Ian, just catching up on the unanswered section, you have far more eloquently than me just echoed my feelings of "how ****@@8 **&*&** outrageously unfair society is. Do gooders rule, sadly and in all walks of life.
Armchair critics come to mind, WELL SAID.
Good luck to the boys.
Well, what a big surprise, the two Royals have been hung out to dry and have lost their careers for allegedly giving an insurgent, caught planting IED's a "split lip"!! I wonder why any of our brave service personnel bother fighting for this country, they should just come home and leave the MP's and Whitehall desk jockeys to go out and fight. Sorry that you have both been betrayed guys,no less than one would expect from this government. Strikes me as a tad unfair that these two face court martial for doing their jobs, against people who don't play by our rules, yet Tony Blair and Gordon Brown are not tried as war criminals for taking us into two wars where the sovereignty of our country was not at risk and British citizens were not in peril, oh and there were no WMD's. I have just watched a video on another site showing the gun cam footage from a US Apache, as they kill 15 people in Baghdad including two Reuters reporters. Whilst the deaths are unfortunate, we are looking at a "war zone" and from viewing the footage at least four of the victims look "armed" 2 look like AK47's and the other two less obvious turned out to be camera gear. Military men are called to make "snap decisions" all the time in the field, some times they will be wrong, other times they will save innocent lives. That is what war is all about. We send them to do "our dirty work" then we stand by and watch them "hang for it", it does not matter whether they are Royal Marines or US Aircrew, at least the US Military stand by their troops decisions in the field. Its a shame we dont.
Good Luck to the both of you...... It is criminal to steal a purse, daring to steal a fortune, a mark of greatness to steal a crown. The blame diminishes as the guilt increases
Ian,there's no allegedly about this case. Both have pleaded guilty to the charges brought against them, and no matter what you would like to happen, you can't link this case with anything else and try to bend the law to suit your outraged feeling of injustice. The law states that people are innocent until proved guilty. However hard it might be for you not to bite your lip, if your logic followed through, then the law would break down, and vigilante law would take over..... and we can't have that, now can we?
Its a shame that the "Law" broke down, the day we invaded Iraq, but I have yet to see any member of the Government facing war crimes prosecution at the Hague. The fatuous spin and lies that was produced to get us into a war that need not have been fought and cost the lives of many brave soldiers and many more innocent civilians, was a travesty of justice. However, as you and I both know, their is one law for the people who run the country and another for the rest of us, including those who bear arms in our defence. I would have been much happier if the two Royals had just gunned down the toe rag who was planting IED's, but we have rules which we are forced to abide by, whilst the enemy have no such encumbrances in their campaign of terror. From the streets of Northern Ireland and the trial of Private Lee Clegg, to the trial of these two Royal Marines, we just see another example of the way in which our soldiers are expected to fight with one hand tied behind their backs.
